Blocking Collection / Creditor Calls With Smartphone Apps

I mentioned in another post about my best way of dealing with avoiding collection / creditor phone calls.  I hear a lot of people also mention call blocking apps for Android smartphones.  I don't know if such apps exist for iPhones (I'm too poor to own anything Apple. I did have an iPhone about five years ago)

Google Play (the app store on Android) has a bunch of free apps that say they can 'blacklist' numbers, and prevent them from calling you.  These apps don't really prevent the 'blacklisted' numbers from calling you, the app just intervenes when they call you and ignore the call.

The problem with most of these apps is the fact that they just ignore the call, and send the caller to voice mail.  Your phone might not ring, but eventually you will get notification that you have a new voice mail.

CallBlock is one app that I found to work well.  You can change the settings so that it will be actually answer one of the numbers you have blocked, and hang up.  This prevents the caller from leaving a voicemail.  The only problem I have with CallBlock is the phone still vibrates / rings for a second before the app takes over.

These apps are really cool, and useful.  The only downfall I have noticed with using call blocking apps is many collection agencies have a handful of numbers that they use, some have hundreds of numbers, so in some cases using these apps will allow you to block a great majority of your collection calls, but some will still slip thru.

If you're getting annoyed by a couple of creditors, and the numbers are the same everytime they call you, these apps might be a great solution for you.
